Outdoor letter sign rust removal and fingerprint resistant coating

投稿日:

MaCoat GC” is a fingerprint resistant coating agent that is sold under the concept of making stainless steel more user-friendly and accessible, but in addition to its fingerprint resistance, it is also effective in resisting corrosion.
The following is an example of an outdoor signboard that has been repaired and coated with a fingerprint-resistant coating.
We would like to thank Marukyu Corporation, a general trading company of aluminum (non-ferrous metals), for their cooperation.

First, let’s look at the situation of the rusted stainless steel sign letters.

As you can see, there is red rust on the surface.
The location is inland, so there is no salt damage in the area.
The stainless steel grade is SUS304 steel and the surface finish is vibration polishing.

Normally, the area is not susceptible to rusting, but since there is an iron factory next to the building, it seems that the iron powder flying in from the factory caused rust to form and the rust progressed.

Now, the first step is to reclaim the rusty stainless steel letter signs.

The first step is to scrape off the rust.

Use a grinder to remove the rust from the surface.

Scraping the surface of stainless steel will make it beautiful again.

It is recommended that the grinding process be as smooth and flat as possible.
Please be careful not to scrape the surface with a low-torque disc or the like, as this may cause warping or denting.

Next, the shaved surface is smoothed out for finish polishing.

This time, since it was a restoration work, we performed “vibration polishing” again.

Next, rinse the surface clean.

If there is abrasive powder on the surface, it will cause rain stains and rust to progress faster.

The restoration work was completed.

However, it started to rain here, so we could not apply the coating.

The coating will be done later.

The first restoration work was done in April 2018.
After that, we couldn’t fix the work date due to the holidays and rainy season.

Finally, the work was done around the end of August 2018, and it took four months to complete.

Here’s what happened.

There is no major rust, but there is minor rust and dirt on the surface.

Some of the rust was deep.

Therefore, we will cut it again.

The shaved surface will look like this.

The surface is again finished with vibratory polishing.

After that, the surface is cleaned with water.

inally, it’s time to coat the MaCoat GC.

After washing with water, the surface is re-cleaned with brake parts cleaner, etc., and then the surface is cleaned with a special cleaning solution.

Soak a special rag with a very small amount of MaCoat GC.

The key here is to “spread it out as if you were brushing it in.

The key here is to “spread it out as if you were brushing it in.

The key here is to “spread the paint as if you are brushing it in. It will make it uneven.

After applying, dry the surface with a hair dryer.

After drying, leave it as it is.

If it rains, it will stain, so work on a sunny day.

It is completed.

The sign was restored to its original beauty.

It has the original beautiful shine of stainless steel.

Let’s see how it goes after that.

Let’s take a look at the progress after one month.

It is a little dirty from rain stains, but there was no rust.

As you can see, MaCoat GC can be easily applied without using special equipment.

Restoration polishing and reclamation polishing require more skill, but it is better to ask a local polisher to do that work.

Coating can be done by yourself.
