This is a stainless steel panel that pays homage to the Hakata Kenjo pattern.
The firm vertical stripes typical of the Hakata kenjo pattern are expressed with three polishing techniques: buffing to keep the stainless steel luster without glare, uneven vertical lines to reflect the sharpness of Hakata weaving, and diamond-shaped polishing to create a unique pattern. Ten patterns of the three combinations were made and arranged on a 1m wide panel. The base material is highly corrosion resistant ferritic stainless steel NSSC-220M (exterior) and environmentally friendly white stainless steel NSSC-FW2 (interior). In order to abstractly express the design of vertical stripes, which is the core of the design, we started by abandoning the common sense of polishing process. We made a number of mock-ups and finally found the solution by actually seeing the actual product. We were able to achieve this because we had the advantage of location. As a result, we were able to express the quaint Hakata-ori kenjo pattern with the most advanced technology by applying a non-monotonous and heterogeneous polish.
